HISTORY

The Anglican Church was built in Austin in 1903-1904.  The church was named Christ Church and was consecrated on March 6, 1904 by Rt. Rev. S.P. Matheson, Bishop of Rupert's Land (later Primate of all Canada).  The Rev. D. Currie was the first ordained rector.  Past clergy since the early 50's included the Reverends Reg Millburn, Omar Lamb, Father Patrick, George Hicks, C. Sells, Jim Fleming, Tom Bailey, Michael Tipper, Majorie Kennon, Jim Talentino, Wendy Lywood, Norman Collier and Chris Arthur.

As the country became mroe settled, Rupert's Land Diocese was divided and Austin became part of the Diocese of Brandon in 1925.  (The present Bishop of Brandon is the Rt. Rev. Jim Njegovan.)

For many years there was an active Girl's Auxiliary and Junior Girl's Auxiliary group in Austin.  The woman of Christ Church were first called the W.A. (Woman's Auxiliary), later known as the A.C.W.  Monthly meetings, teas and bake sales were held.  Our vestry now is our congregation.  In 1978, a plaque reading CHRIST CHURCH ANGLICAN, IN MEMORY OF CYRIL RANDALL was placed on the exterior of the church.  A memorial plaque in memory of James and Eleanor Halkyard was placed inside the church to acknowledge those who made memorial gifts.

Christ Church celebrated it's 100th anniversary in August of 2004.
